Booking your apartment or villa direct with the owner provides a number of benefits:

A more personal service...

Many holiday home owners will be more than happy to tell you about the area in which you will be staying, maybe tell you about places that tourists typically overlook, quality restaurants and attractions that are worth visiting. If you are staying in a period property or accommodation that has historical interest you may find that owners will be only too pleased to tell you about it.
If you need an airport transfer or want to hire a car then ask them which services they have used and if they were happy with them.

Flexibility...

Owners of holiday homes are often far more flexible with regard to checking in/out times. If there is no-one checking in on your date of departure they may be willing to allow you to remain in the property until you are ready to leave, this saves you hauling your luggage around on the last day of your holiday.
Flights and transfers can be arranged to suit your preferred dates rather than you having to conform to dates dictated by package tour companies.

Privacy...

Many holiday makers prefer the privacy a self-catering apartment or villa provides in comparison to a hotel. Along with the increased space provided by such accommodation it is perhaps unsurprising that many people prefer self-catering. Dine at your own leisure in restaurants of your choosing rather than eat in the same hotel restaurant every day as often is the case on all-inclusive deals.
