2. Mix your clothes
3. Book midweek flights
4. Don't be first to board
5. Toys for the flight
6. Healthy snacks
7. Explain the airport process
8. Don't over-pack
9. Spot your luggage
10. Slow down

1. Make a reusable packing list
Once again it's time to pack for you holiday and yet again you stress about whether you've remembered everything! Isn't it always the case that even if you manage to remember that important item that you overlooked last year you're certain to forget something else? You will probably be using the same luggage that you used for your last holiday, perhaps some of the same clothes, but why not reuse last years packing list?! Take the packing list with you on your trip and add any items that crop up in those 'Oh, why didn't we bring...' moments. This way you'll develop a comprehensive packing list which will save you time and stress!
2. Have a mix of clothes in each case/bag
By splitting the clothes up everyone will have something to wear if a case gets lost.
3. If possible book midweek flights
During midweek airports should be quiter, couple this with night flights which are better for international travel, the kids are more likely to sleep on the plane which can be a big help.
4. Don't be first on the plane!
Assuming your seats are preassigned then what's the point of being couped up on the plane any longer than you have to. You're likely to be hearing 'Are we taking off yet?', 'I want to take off, why aren't we going?' for the majority of the time you're on the tarmac. Instead aim to get on in the later stages of boarding.
5. Bring a couple of toys for the flight
Space is somewhat limited so bring small / travel-sized toys, games, books and puzzles. Once you're on the flight then use them as a diversion when you're kids get bored. Don't bring them out if you're kids are busy looking at the clouds, wait 'til they're in need of a distraction and you've used up all the easy options like 'I spy' etc.
6. Bring plenty of healthy snacks
Like toys, these will keep the kids occupied and help should there be any delay taking off. Bringing things like dried fruits and rice cakes will help reduce the mess that you'd get with sticky treats. Include a couple of special treats for good behavior!
7. Explain each stage of the airport process
Explain what happens when you check-in, where your bags are going. When going through security explain that all the bags have to be x-rayed and so on. As well as keeping them occupied this might help them feel more at ease in a strange environment. Offer a treat for completing each stage without a tantrum, for example "Once we've checked in your can have a treat."
8. Don't over-pack!
Less is more when it comes to packing for you holidays, children don't mind wearing the same clothes a few times and self catering allows you to do the laundry (facility permitting).
9. Make spotting your luggage easy
Put a bright distinguishing ribbon or band on each of your suitcases so they are easy to spot on carousel. You can then make a game of it for the kids, first to spot our cases gets a treat!
10. Slow down
Don't get annoyed trying to hurry kids up, it can be frustrating when you want to get to an attraction before it closes. But sometimes just slow down to the pace of the kids, by nature children 'live in the moment', let them spend time looking at a strange tropical insect they haven't seen before, just go with it. After all, didn't you come on holiday to slow down and relax?
